29.04.2009 Power Max provides optimum sound with Sennheiser RF wireless
Despite decades of experience under their belt, production experts from Power Max (Asia) Engineering knew their recent project was no easy feat to pull off. Appointed as the Sound Production Company for the concert “Four Seas Group presents Liu Jia Chang Music Alive”, Power Max’s key challenge was the extensive use of wireless equipment. To ensure the success of the show, held at the Hong Kong Coliseum from 19 to 21 March, Power Max roped in its long-time partner Sennheiser to provide not only technical equipment, but on-site support on radio frequency expertise as well. To cater for the occasion, a total of 16 channels of ew 300 IEM G2, ten channels of EM 550 G2 and eight channels of EM 3532 were used. The concert’s monitor engineer Mike Wong said: “When this event came about, we knew we had to plan using Sennheiser as our experience had proven the reliability of Sennheiser’s wireless equipment. They are simply outstanding in multi-channel set-ups.”

The “Four Seas Group presents Liu Jia Chang Music Alive” concert was a huge success
According to Wong, frequency scanning and preparation took place two days prior to the show, with Sennheiser specialists setting in place optimal RF levels. However, during the rehearsal on 18 March, there was interference with new wireless equipment being brought into the venue such as walkie talkies, wireless intercoms etc. Quickly, the engineers had to rescan and change the settings accordingly. During the three nights of the concert, everything went without a hitch. “I didn’t need any major EQ adjustments on the MD 5235 dynamic capsule outfitted on the SKM 5200 microphones as the sound was really, really good,” Wong said.

Backline musicians, typically more demanding due to their sensitive ears, were also satisfied with the HD 25 headphones, shared Wong. Daniel Kwan, front-of-house engineer, was equally pleased with the artiste microphones. “I chose the Neumann KK 105 capsule for the female artistes and the MD 5235 for the males. When the artistes sing together, they complement each other very well and the sensitivity of the two capsules makes it very easy to mix.” Other equipment that Sennheiser supported Power Max with were evolution e 900 series wired microphones as well as SKM 935 G2 cardioid handheld transmitters. |
